How should I wash, dry and treat stains on my gear?Updated 2 months ago

How Do I Care for My TRUEWERK Gear?

Proper care helps maximize the lifespan and performance of your TRUEWERK workwear. Here’s what you need to know:

🧺 Basic Washing Instructions

Before Washing:

  • Close all fasteners and release pull cords.
  • Wash cold with like colors.
  • Avoid fabric softeners, bleach, and dry cleaning.

Drying:

  • Tumble dry low (DO NOT dry on high heat).
  • Do not iron.

🧵 Special Fabric Care

🧶 Knit Fabrics (e.g., knit caps, sweaters, hoodies):

  • Wash cold with like colors.
  • Lay flat to dry to avoid shrinkage.

🛑 Stain Removal Tips

1️⃣ Blot stain with a paper towel (avoid rubbing).
2️⃣ Apply a stain remover (e.g., Dawn dish soap), then work the stain with your hands or a brush. Let soak for 30–60 minutes.
3️⃣ Wash according to basic washing instructions.
4️⃣ Air dry & inspect—do not machine dry before confirming the stain is removed!
⚠️ Oil & grease stains may require 2–3 washes for full removal.

🔥 Shrinkage Prevention

  • Most technical workwear will not shrink under normal washing conditions.
  • Cotton blends may shrink if washed and dried on high heat—follow basic washing instructions to minimize this.
  • Polyester may shrink slightly with high heat exposure.
  • Knit fabrics (caps, sweaters, hoodies) should be laid flat to dry to prevent shrinkage.

🏭 Industrial Laundry Care

  • T1 and X1 garments are industrial wash tested.
  • Limit industrial washing when possible—high heat & harsh chemicals can reduce garment lifespan.
  • Do not wash over 165°F.

💦 DWR (Durable Water Repellent) Coating

  • DWR treatments wear down over time, especially with frequent use or abrasion.
  • To restore DWR, wash according to basic washing instructions, then tumble dry on low/medium heat for 15–20 minutes to reactivate the coating.

🚧 ANSI Compliant Garments (High-Visibility Workwear)

  • Frequent washing & high heat drying can fade hi-vis colors and reduce reflective banding durability.
  • Garments are ANSI 107 tested to withstand at least 25 washes when following basic washing instructions.
  • To extend the life of high-visibility gear, wash only when necessary and avoid excessive heat when drying.
